story of craftsmanship

Becoming a Woodworker

My journey with woodworking started early in life. Both my father and maternal grandfather were carpenters. Though not her profession, my mother is also very skilled and creative and loved making furniture. She even made a crib for me before I was born. I certainly inherited my family’s passion for creating, and ever since I can remember I’ve always been excited about making anything I can.

Artisan teachers

I learned so much just being around my parents and helping with projects. My father taught me how to use tools and all the basics of carpentry. When I was 18 I took a job as a carpenters apprentice for a high-end remodel contractor. I had the great privilege of working under several artisan finish carpenters as we remodeled old victorian houses around Boston. This is where I discovered my passion for precision, detail, and the beauty of fine craftsmanship.

Passion for Design

After some time I decided to go to college to study architecture. While I ended up deciding I didn’t want to be an architect after the first year, I loved every minute of designing and drafting. The melding of form and function fascinated me. What I enjoy most as a maker is the overlap of artistic expression and practical design. I love the challenge of thinking like an engineer and an artist at the same time.

Refining My Craft

I have since designed and built houses and worked on countless other building projects, from masonry to cabinetry, but making fine furniture is really my passion. Creating one-of-kind pieces of furniture allows me to combine all of my favorite pursuits: design, creativity, function, and fine craftsmanship. And of course it’s such a joy simply to work with all the beautiful hardwoods.
